Dark days – poem

The darkest days.

Where loneliness surrounds me.

Have walked in the shadows since a child.

Waiting for a hero to come and save the day.

But days have passed.

Storms have come and gone.

And my feelings remain the same.

A loneliness that nothing can fill.

I see blue skies ahead.

I must walk this path alone.

To become strong, and be my own hero.

But words of others bring me to my knees.

As I crawl to brighter days.

No one accompanies me.

And grey clouds hover over head.

My own voice pushes out the sound of those around me.

Make me take steps forward.

To push past the hurtful words,

Meant to keep me down.

Despite the loneliness I must continue.

To reach the days where I am enough.

Where the light will be found.
